Water carries with it all it goes through. Watercolor is a medium with which to explore these textures and the role that water plays in our lives. Mineral-based water color and charcoal combine in this piece in variations on red as a caution about what ends up in our water.

MORE PERFECT?, 2025, watercolors and aquapasto

We often portray and learn about democracy as set in stone, clear, and easy. In reality, democracy can be very messy, long-term work. Really messy, and not easy. But incredibly valuable. How do we acknowledge the messy and salvage it?

CASINGS OF A CLEANER FUTURE, 2025

The casings that the title of the painting refers to are oysters, acorns, and walnuts. The subject of the painting, the Chesapeake oyster, cleans our waters, and acorns and walnuts make up the pigment used to make the handmade paint, which reduces use and disposal of synthetic sources.

This painting leveraged the way the natural pigment moved on the paper to create heavy lines and variegated colors.
